Cinematic Spaces - Thumbnails: 1-5

These are some Thumb Nails i have done today, they where mainly just me practicing in Photoshop in between doing research and review work today, i limited myself to 5 or 10 minutes a piece just to see what i could do in a short amount of time.

1,2 & 3 i just cant seem to get the perspective and angle right at all, but i guess that's what thumbnails are for right? Practice, leading up to the final piece!~

More to come tomorrow ^^'

  1. Well done Lekti, getting some thumbnails up at last! :) Why not try ditching the colour for now and just use the tablet and pen like a pencil and paper? - Remember what Photoshop Phill said last week about colour getting in the way of the initial design process... Maybe you could just use some simple line drawings to practice your perspective. Also, let's see some influence maps up now too, so we can see where your ideas are coming from - I know when we spoke the other day, you said you were looking at the Hawaiian islands - am I right in thinking number 5 might be based on that idea? Documenting your research through research maps (and posting other general research)is vital at this stage, as it allows your viewer to see where your inspiration is coming from, rather than it looking like you are just thinking the ideas up randomly from your head! :) You could have a research map that just focussed on texture for example, or one with a colour palette; one that looks at foliage and trees etc,or one concentrating on rock formations...keep going! :)

  2. Hey Lekti :) The change in your blog template is noted - and already this space looks much more sophisticated. Jackie's words re. dropping the colour is wise - and I think if you look at thumnbnail number 2, it's considerably more evocative BECAUSE it's b/w and we can really see the tonal values.

  3. brilliantly done I especially like number 2 and 5 but number 4 sticks out the most for me, I imagine what that would look like without colour and think you should definitely try it to see, there is something about that one not sure if its the depth or what but it definitely leaps out at me for some reason. Great work, loving the trees too :)
